Peace Among The Pieces
So much of life does not seem to “fit”. So much seems to be so fragmented these days. It doesn't seem to stack up. We try on our own to put the fragments back together, as if to find peace among the pieces, as if sifting among several thousand pieces of unmatched puzzles, which all have been jumbled into a big box and shaken up, will bring any answers at all.
Yet the solution may not be necessarily complex. We have Christ’s two fold promise, which is a marvel, if you stop to consider it - ”But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.” (John 14:26,27)
He leaves His peace with us, along with sending the Holy Spirit - the Counselor. He Who is called “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6,7) makes these bold promises! Isaiah’s prophecy goes on to say, “There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace.”
So, where is this peace? There’s no end to its increase, if we will simply “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful.” (Colossians 3:15)
Could it be a difference between approaches - the difference between our own attempts to make it all fit, versus the simplicity of letting His peace in, surrendering to it, and making ourself available to the Holy Spirit’s comfort and counsel? In other words, it’s the difference between self effort at the impossible versus surrender of self effort to His wisdom, His peace, and His governance over our life - of which there is no end to the increase!
It always seems to boil down to surrendering to redeeming grace, amazing grace - which brings in the reign of His peace to which we, as His people, are actually called.
