Pride: The Road To Perdition
Caution: This is not going to be an easy read, as it is a hot button subject. It is stern in content. It needs to be, as there are too many playing deadly games with life. The hour is late and the time short.
Proverbs 8:12-14 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion. To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate arrogant pride, evil conduct, and perverse speech. Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have insight and strength."
Ps 119:92 NKJV. “Unless Your law has been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.”
The strong evidence of increasing lawlessness, confusion, chaos, disruption, bewilderment, disrespect of godly order, disdain of other human beings and even oneself created in the image of God - is that God’s “law” (His way in Christ, His principles, and the like) is not the delight of a vast majority. Such receive no higher wisdom of any sort, but instead regard "freedom" as doing, thinking, speaking anything they tell themselves is right. They consider themselves as a law unto themselves, having no regard for the laws and ways of God.
Such do not seek Him at all, let alone with their whole heart, so that He would reveal Himself to them through Jesus Christ. They lack therefore the vision of Him. So they are unruly, and unless this turns around, they will perish, cut off from God and His way in Christ.
The afflictions now unfolding upon this world are increasing, as the ungodly, increasing in number, move further away from God’ Presence, power, and purpose. There will be a great perishing because of this, as more and more grow ungodly.
How far this has gone is seen in the idea of legitimizing and celebrating for an entire month “pride” in that which God reveals is abomination - because it is destructive to both body and soul. All this tells us is how far the majority have wandered, defying and shaking their fist at their Creator, as they choose instead those ways which lead to their destruction. It goes from wandering away to a hatred of Him and anyone who stands with Him and are aligned with what is lawful and life preserving.
Let’s not be fooled into defending this rebellion with the idea that this is “just Old Testament.” One of the final warnings comes from the last word of Jesus Christ in the Revelation 21:6-8, which strongly speaks to those who “shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” It is a good idea to read and take to heart all that is in this passage by unbelievers who’d rather scoff at such old fashioned concepts, or “progressive” liberal Christians. (Scripture is clear that the demons "believe" and even they have the sense to tremble!)
(Other references from the NEW TESTAMENT include 1 Corinthians 6:9,10. Revelation 22:15. Ephesians 5:5,6. Galatians 5:19-21. Hebrews 13:4. 1 Timothy 1:9,10. Revelation 9: 20,21.)
Warnings are for the lawless who insist - evidenced by their thinking, embrace of lies, and lifestyle contrary to God’s way of life - upon choosing the paths of death and not eternal life. These references are all New Testament and for the benefit of any who are under the impression that we can go on sinning that grace may abound.
Let Scripture speak for itself on this. There is probably no clearer treatment of this subject than the entire chapter of Romans 6. Dear reader, please read this at once! This especially means libertine Christians who ought to know better than to embrace hyper grace ideas that we can sin without restraint.
No! Rather grace sets us free - through the work of Jesus Christ - from sin and from the authority of evil and the evil one! Grace does not give a pass to or condone living in further wickedness. It is the power of God that converts. It is not some therapy whereby self effort is applied, but the very power of God as we surrender ourselves to it. It sets us free from those entities and behaviors to which we have been held captive from our very beginnings. Grace is the life transforming power that delivers us from darkness and deception for all who receive Christ Jesus and His redemptive work.
It is activated through holy Baptism. “Do you not know that as many of us who were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
The foregoing has not been written to throw those bound by sin under the bus. God’s law must be proclaimed to bring to awareness the intoxicating enslavement into which this generation has fallen.
The Gospel is what must follow, the truth that humankind has been granted an emancipation proclamation from the law of sin and death, its wages. Christ has granted this through His work on the cross, and its justification is in His resurrection. In Him both sin and the law were put to death, so that all who receive this gift may now walk in newness of eternal life, free from the bonds of sin and Satan. We have become new creatures in Him.
Grace reigns through righteousness. Romans 5:21. Grace does not give a pass to wickedness. When we live in grace, as it’s recipients, wickedness goes into remission like a cancer subjected to a reliable treatment or prescription which actually diminishes and destroys it.
Those who prefer to abide in sin and take pride in it are in fact prisoners of war in a cosmic rebellion against the Almighty. They do not know that the side they serve has been defeated by the work of Jesus Christ. They have become comfortable living as captives, or simply used to it. They do not, or perhaps cannot, acknowledge that they are in a prison headed for eternal damnation. This is the nature of bondage to sin.
Many even serve as mouthpieces and promoters of the ways of destruction. They see their prison as freedom, but it is a prison of the worst kind - a spiritual one where they are captives of deception. They serve a defeated, judged, and sentenced foe - who keeps deceiving them and will take them with him to eternal perdition - as many as who will not receive salvation and live in its truth as new creatures.
Let all such forsake these ways, if these words touch your heart at all! Turn to Christ and His gift of eternal life for you.
Let all who truly love and serve the Lord pray that the Holy Spirit sets free all who have been bound and captive to this deception, so as to embrace and to surrender to the life Christ desires in His love to offer them.
Soli Deo Gloria.
